english vs swedish

I will probably shift between writing in English and Swedish in this blog. At first I thought about completely shifting over to English, but sometimes (most times I guess) I express myself better in Swedish. Not that that is surprising in any way, as it is my native language. But still, I do have days when I only find the right words in English...

If you only want to see the English posts just use the english label. I thought of tagging all the Swedish posts as well, but it feels superfluous, as there is so few Swedish people I know that doesn't understand English. Some posts have both English and Swedish parts and they are tagged as English as well. I hope you'll have patience with me. I know how annoying it can be when someone writes stuff in a language you can't understand, but I just can't help it.

video upload

I actually did manage to upload one of my videos the day I sat and cursed the computers. Once to youtube and three times to facebook. It's the one of the west side of Washington Avenue. I shot it when I was bored on the bus to Publix, going to do some grocery shopping.

back home

I really am the worst at posting updates. I'm not even sure I would have done better if I'd had my laptop with me (my excuse so far). There was just always more fun things to do.

I'm back home again, as you might understand by now. I loved my stay on South Beach. I met loads of nice people and got a little bit of sun and a lot of warmth. You can't really tell that I've been in the sun for two weeks, since I used plenty of sun block. But at least I'm not as pasty white as before.

I've been home a week now, and I still haven't gotten around to posting my pictures or edited the video as I'd planned. I start looking at the pictures, and something comes in the way. I have to do it soon, or I'll probably never do it.

So what did I do my last week in Miami?
I walked around in South Beach, basked in the sun on the beach, stayed in the hostel lounge a day or so to avoid getting burned, shopped for food, rented a car with Alex and Nas and went to Sawgrass Mills mall and to Coconut Grove, drank some wine and beer on the hostel rooftop in the evenings... and that's about it.

But then, that was my plan. To go to South Beach and relax, have fun and do what ever I felt like. Next time I go to Miami I'll do my best to find some accommodation near Coconut Grove. I'll probably end up on South Beach again, but I really liked CocoWalk and the streets, bars and restaurants in that area.

I just wish that spring would arrive. We've had some pretty nice days since I've been back, but now it's snowing again. The weather just can't seem to decide.

problems uploading files

I've been at the computer for quite a while now, and I can't seem to upload pictures or movies to either Facebook or Youtube. So now I'm gonna try my blog instead. If that doesn't work, I'll give up for now and try it later. On the other computer.

finally got to swim

It was warmer today and an not as windy as earlier in the week. So I went down on the beach as soon as I was able to drag my tired (and a little bit hungover) ass out of bed and make myself some breakfast. Thankfully I have a really good sunblock (SPF 25) otherwise I'd be red as a lobster. Though I think I need to step down to my SPF 15, or I won't get any tan before I have to leave.

Tom, Moes cousin from Atlanta, decided to drive down to Miami for the day. So he and his friend Mike joined me on the beach. We'll probably meet them at LIV @ Fontainebleau later tonight. Mike that drove all the way, went back to the hotel for a nap.

After a while Joe joined us and later Paulo and Damiano as well.

I finally got to take a swim. Well... i could have taken a swim earlier, but I don't like to get out of the water and be cold. I'm a sissy in that way. I tried to show Tom how to bodysurf, though the waves were a little too small.

The beach was packed with people.

I feels so unreal that I've been here for a week now. And that I'm leaving in little more then a week. Tonight will be the first night that I actually go out. Or we'll see what happens. Me and Johanna was supposed to go to LIV last night, but we ended up staying at the hostel drinking beer with some college students from Atlanta.

pictures

As you might have noticed, I am able to upload pictures. Thankfully the computers at the hostel has built in memory card readers. I didn't realize that until just this morning, but it means that I don't have to buy one.

Someday soon I'll take the time to upload some more. Someday soon...

my breakfast

The hostel does provide a free breakfast, but I can't start my day on white bread and sugar. So I went to Publix and bought stuff to make a proper one. It is possible to buy healthy food here, you just have to read the lables thoroughly and cough up a little bit more money.

Too bad Publix is so many blocks away. It seems to be the largest cheap grocery shop near the hostel. The small markets around here have some essential stuff, but I need more fruits and veggies. I don't mind walking to Publix, but you really want to take the bus on the way back. It's not fun to carry all those bags in the heat. Thank god for the local bus that only cost 25¢.

morning jog

I finally had the strength to go out for a 25 minute jog on the beach and I loved it. In some ways it is the perfect place for a run. If you feel like it's too easy, you just head out onto softer sand. I will probaly try to get out at least every third morning. No need to set my goals too high. ;)

Tomorrow I'm planing to do yoga on beach with Amber, the girl from San Diego that just moved into an appartment next to the Italians. I should probably take a walk along beach later this afternoon to check it out. Just so I know exactly where they are and if I'll need a mat or not.

the Italians place

Last night we went over to the Italians new appartment. They've stayed here at the hostel, but had to move out as the hostel is getting busy. We had a sort of a going away dinner for Jerry, whom is leaving later today. The Italians made an amazing tomato and shrimp pasta and we just sat around had a few quiet drinks and enjoyed ourselves.

As today is Jerrys last day here, we're probably gonna go down to the beach. It's a little bit warmer then yesterday, so hopefully it will be nice.

spring break

As I suspected spring break started the day I arrived. So there is a lot of college students here and more will be arriving soon.

It's a little bit sad because it means that a lot of the "old time" guests here at the hostel will be leaving. Some of them have been here for months, but most didn't realize that they should have booked this period a while back. So they are slowly moving out. It's sad because they are really fun people. I wish I had arrived here a week ago.

cold

You guys don't have to be envious about me being in the warmth and living just next to the beach. It was pretty hot during the day yesterday as I took a walk around the neighbourhood and then a stroll along the beach. But it did turn cold and windy in the evening.

It is freezing this morning! It's only 10°C at the moment though it will rise to 20°C later in the day. Tomorrow will probably be the same as today, but then it's gonna get warmer again. Or so they say anyway.

Not the best of weathers but I'm still loving it.

arrived safely

I've no strength to sign in and use my travel diary at resedagboken.se at the moment. So I'll be lazy and write here instead.

I'm finally in Miami Beach and have checked in at my hostel. It's a bit expensive, but I love it. I love the place and I only just got here and have had time for nothing but a shower.

The guy in the reception was really nice and it seems like there is nice people here. The bathrooms look great. There is a small bar and cute lounge. Free internet in the form of two public computers and a Wi-Fi . And there is a jacuzzi on the roof terrace.

I'd actually planned to be a little bit unsocial while here. Just relax and get some quality me-time. But now we'll just have to wait and see.

The only bad thing with this hostel is a result of one of the good things that makes it great. The hostel is right on Ocean Drive. And Ocean Drive is packed with loads of bars and clubs. They make quite a bit of noise. It's not really bad and I think I can live with it. :) There is a beautiful invention called earplugs. And also, I have my lovely iPod.

The trip here was... interesting. There was some obstacles and hopefully I'll write about them tomorrow. Because now I have to go meet some Swedes that apparently are staying here. I met a Canadian while writing this and he wants to introduce me to the rest of the Swedes here. And then I'm off to bed.

I'm off to the terrace and... a small white dog just came down the stairs.
Weird.

Love you all,
