signs of spring

Snowdrops in a park in Stockholm (Observatorielunden)

As you might have understood, I am longing for spring to arrive for real. Not just show us a little bit of sunlight and tease us, pretending it's here and then skitter off and dump a pile of wet snow on us.

I have started seeing more and more proper signs of spring this last week. And the weather these last couple of days has been wonderful.

Last Wednesday, on my way to the Squvalp pub, I got delayed for a bit. I happened to run into two cute little things that made me sway of my path to the station. Two tiny blue tits were lying helplessly, flopping around, in the middle of the street. I saw the approaching cars, stepped out without another thought and quickly picked them up to get them out of harms way.

The two of them had probably been in the middle of a territorial fight (a sign of spring) and not noticed a car coming towards them.

They were really dazed and one of them seemed very weak. At first I just stood there, on the sidewalk looking at them, pondering if it would be less stressful for them if I just laid them down on the grass next to me. But it was still pretty cold outside and I wasn't sure that they weren't hurt. So I turned around and walked back home. My dad was home, working in the yard, and he likes birds, so I thought I'd leave them with him.

I only got halfway home before one of them came to and flew away. The other one was still out of it, so I kept on walking. It hardly even reacted when I took a photo of it. It just sat there blinking and moving it's head slightly.

I left him with dad, who made sure he got water, food and protection. After a few hours he seemed okay and flew off. Hopefully he's still well and stop by our feeding table every now and again.
