bagged bumble bee

I heard a weird sound while I was doing a bit of spring cleaning in my closet earlier today. It was a rather loud scratching sound and at first I thought it might be another fieldmouse that had decided to move into the ceiling between the living room and my bedroom.

The sound was a bit too loud and didn't stop even though I made a quite a bit of noise close to it. So I got curious and tried to pinpoint the location of it. Perhaps the mouse was trapped somewhere inside my cluttered walk-in closet or had decided to gnaw a hole in one of the boxes in it and build a house in it.

I moved some stuff out of the closet and noticed that it had gotten quiet in there. So I walked out and realized that the sound came from a bag where I put other bags to keep them out of the way. As I started emptying it I found a rather large bumble bee. He was buzzing tiredly and I guess he'd been trapped there for quite a long time. I guess he must have flown in sometime when my parents or I have had a window open or something.

I put on some gloves I found nearby, picked the bumble bee up, put it on a small lid with a drop of water, in case it was dehydrated, and stood by the window so it could fly off if it wanted to. But he was totally uninterested of the water and didn't want to stay on the lid, so it crawled onto my finger instead, where it sat for a while.

I got my camera, that sat on the table next to me, and tried to take some pictures of it. That was, of course, when it decided to get active and walk around on my hand for a minute before it took off. It was really tricky to get a good shot and I'm not really happy with any of them, but the bumble bee was really cute irl.

Spring is here, even though it's still pretty cold outside. Give it a week or two and the world will turn green. Yay!
